Shipping Policy
1. Firearm Shipping
FFL-to-FFL Transfer Required
All firearms purchased from Barela Defense Group LLC must be shipped to a licensed Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) dealer. We do not ship firearms directly to customers. This is a requirement of federal law under the Gun Control Act of 1968.
To complete your firearm purchase, you must:
- Select a licensed FFL dealer near you to serve as the receiving dealer.
- Contact your chosen FFL dealer to confirm they will accept the transfer and inquire about their transfer fee.
- Obtain a copy of the receiving FFL's current federal firearms license and provide it to BDG before your order ships. This can be submitted via our contact form.
- Pick up your firearm in person at the receiving FFL, where you will complete ATF Form 4473 and undergo a NICS background check.
BDG reserves the right to refuse to ship to any FFL at our discretion. Transfer fees charged by the receiving FFL dealer are not included in BDG's pricing and are the customer's sole responsibility.
Firearm Shipping Carriers
Firearms are shipped via UPS or FedEx in accordance with their respective firearms shipping policies. Adult signature (21+) is required upon delivery to the receiving FFL. We do not use the U.S. Postal Service for firearm shipments, as USPS may only accept handgun shipments from licensed dealers under specific conditions.
Firearm Shipping Timeframes
After we receive a valid copy of the receiving FFL's license, firearm orders are typically processed and shipped within 1–5 business days, subject to availability. We offer ground shipping for all FFL-to-FFL firearm transfers. Expedited shipping for firearms may be available upon request at additional cost.
2. Ammunition Shipping
Hazmat Classification
Ammunition is classified as an ORM-D (Other Regulated Material — Domestic) or hazardous material (HAZMAT) and is subject to special carrier regulations. Ammunition shipments may incur a hazmat/signature fee charged by the carrier, which will be reflected at checkout or communicated prior to shipment.
Ammunition Shipping Restrictions
Ammunition cannot be shipped via air freight (no air shipments). All ammunition ships ground only via UPS or FedEx. Adult signature (21+) is required upon delivery. Ammunition cannot be shipped to the following locations:
- P.O. Boxes or APO/FPO/DPO addresses
- Any state or locality where the purchase, possession, or importation of that specific ammunition is prohibited
- Outside the contiguous 48 states (including Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories) unless explicitly confirmed as permissible
3. Accessories & Parts Shipping
Non-firearm accessories and parts are typically shipped via UPS, FedEx, or USPS depending on package size and weight. Standard shipping rates apply. Expedited and overnight options are available at checkout for most accessory orders.
Shipping times for accessories after order processing:
- Standard Ground (UPS/FedEx): 3–7 business days
- Expedited (2-Day): 2 business days
- Overnight: Next business day
Free standard shipping is available on accessory orders over $75 shipped within the contiguous 48 states, where applicable. This offer does not apply to firearm or ammunition orders.
4. Prohibited Shipping Destinations
BDG does not ship firearms, ammunition, or restricted accessories to certain states or localities where such products are prohibited by local law. Customers are responsible for knowing and complying with the laws of their state and locality. States and localities with significant restrictions that may affect your order include:
This list is not exhaustive. Restrictions vary by product category and change frequently. If you are unsure whether a product can be legally shipped to your location, contact us before placing your order. BDG will not knowingly ship any product to a jurisdiction where that product is prohibited, and orders may be cancelled if a prohibited destination is identified after placement.
5. No International Shipping
Barela Defense Group LLC does not ship any products internationally. All orders must be shipped to a valid U.S. address. Exporting firearms, ammunition, and certain accessories outside the United States requires authorization under U.S. export control laws, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR). BDG does not hold the required export licenses for international firearm or ammunition shipments.
6. Order Processing Times
Orders are processed on business days (Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays). Orders placed after 12:00 PM Mountain Time may be processed the following business day. BDG is not responsible for carrier delays, weather events, or other circumstances outside our control that may affect delivery times.
During high-volume periods (holidays, sales events), processing times may be extended. We will notify you of any significant delay affecting your order.
7. Shipping Insurance & Lost Packages
All firearm shipments are fully insured. For accessories and parts, we provide carrier insurance coverage up to $100 at no additional charge. Additional insurance can be requested at checkout for higher-value orders.
If your shipment is lost in transit, contact BDG within 10 business days of the expected delivery date. We will open a carrier trace and work to resolve the issue. BDG is not responsible for packages marked as delivered by the carrier but reported as missing; please contact the carrier and your local law enforcement if a firearm is involved.
8. Signature Requirements
Adult signature (age 21+) is required for all firearm and ammunition deliveries. Accessories valued over $200 may also require adult signature. Please ensure someone is available to sign at the delivery address. Packages that cannot be delivered due to failed signature requirements may be returned to BDG; re-shipping fees will apply.
